Waanderlust Project--Phase III | Monday, September 26, 2011

To continue the toerail construction, I turned to the taffrail, which would span the top of the transom.  With the original (or at least what was on the boat when she arrived here) taffrail on hand, I had a good pattern from which to start.

In order to cut the required curve, I needed to glue up a panel from two lengths of teak board, so after some measurements I cut the board I'd purhased for the purpose into two pieces that I glued together to accommodate the curve.  I set this assembly aside to cure for the day.

Next, I installed teak bungs in all the screwholes in the new toerail.

The eyebrow trim was done, so I removed the masking tape.

I spent most of the day on the galley trim, however.  With most of the pieces pre-made and -varnished, I cut and fit the individual sections as required:  countertop fiddles; corner trim; and trim around the outside edges of the countertop.  I also installed the companionway ladder and put it into service.

The engine box top required some additional trim, to cover the forward edge, the seams where it abutted the adjacent countertops, and at the aft end.  I measured and milled the four pieces to fit, sanded them smooth, and applied a sealer coat of varnish.
