Waanderlust Project--Phase III | Friday, September 2, 2011

With the major galley components in place, I prepared the interior of the boat for additional paint by lightly sanding the new plywood cabinets and surrounding areas as need be, masking, vacuuming, and solvent washing as required.  Then I applied gray Bilgekote to all the interiors of the lockers, including the new galley and engine room and beneath the settees and berths in the main cabin.  Inside the galley cabinet, I left an area unpainted, as I planned to install the galley sink through hull and seacock in that area.

Afterwards, I applied a coat of white primer to the exposed areas of the galley and engine room cabinets.  I'd planned to also prime the underside of the sidedecks and the hull surfaces in these areas, but discovered I'd neglected to mask off some critical areas nearby; with so much wet paint already around, the risk of making a mess was too high to try and tape now, so I left those areas untreated for the moment.

Down on the bench, I painted various plywood panels from the interior cabinets, including the engine room front panel and the existing settee tops.
