Waanderlust Project | Wednesday, September 15, 2010

After tacking off the deck areas and preparing the paint, I applied three coats of Alexseal "off white" topcoat to the designated deck areas.  The owner and I made the decision to add some flattening agent to the paint to tone down the shine to a semi-gloss level, which seemed to better suit the boat's general style and appearance; in particular, the lower gloss seemed a good idea for the hull, given the accepted condition of the gelcoat substrate, but the choice seemed appropriate for the decks as well.

Although the can of flattening agent had settled badly and required 30 minutes of careful mixing to reamalgamate, I was pleased with the effect it had on the paint, offering a soft gloss and smooth and even appearance.
