Bugs (Formerly Surprise)
| Friday, October 22, 2010 With just a short morning available before I had to depart for an early afternoon appointment, I worked on a few small jobs that would help keep the various processes going in the coming days. To begin, I installed new fuel lines to replace those that I'd removed earlier in the week. This was a relatively straightforward process, complicated only by the tight access. I ran a new supply line from the tank to the filter, re-using the original shutoff valve, but left the final segment--from the filter to the engine--for later, as I didn't know how long it needed to be. I made a note to install a bit of chafe gear on the fuel line where it passed by an engine room ventilation hose with close tolerances. Similarly, I ran the new fuel return line to the tank and around the side and top of the engine room, but left ample extra hose in place for now till I could determine its final length with the engine in place. |
There was a damaged spot on the cockpit bridgedeck where the owner reported he'd mistakenly placed a hot stove; the heat burned through the gelcoat and slightly into the laminate beneath. To repair this shallow, minor spot, I lightly ground the area as needed to remove loose or damaged material and provide a slight taper around the edges. After cleaning up, I applied a first coat of epoxy fairing compound to fill the area flush with the surrounding deck. |

Finally, I sanded, cleaned, and revarnished the cabin sole (4th coat). |
