Summer Song | Thursday, October 20, 2011

After briefly sanding yesterday's filler, I spent the remainder of the day working on the brightwork, beginning by stripping the finish from remaining wood (companionway, coamings, etc.), using a heat gun and scraper.  In some places, the old finish was extremely thick, years and years of varnish and Cetol, and came off like partially-cured rubber cement.

With the finish all stripped, I had enough time to get a start on sanding, working through the grits up to 220 on the companionway, small cockpit trim (instrument panel and tiller surround), heater vent pipe, and part of one coaming.
