After lightly sanding the toerails and solvent-washing to prepare them for another coat of varnish later in the day, I returned to the work in the galley and completed the countertop fiddle.  At the companionway itself, I made a cutout in the fiddle to accept a solid teak step, which I'd secure to the countertop a little later.  The step, made from 8/4 teak, was about the same height as the fiddle above the countertop; I'd let the step overhang just slightly during final installation, which would match the way the treads on the two lower steps would also appear.

Meanwhile, I milled additional bulkhead edge trim, and cut and fit the pieces required to trim out the edge of the forward galley bulkhead.  Where the trim met the berth fiddle, I cut back the fiddle slightly to allow the edge trim to pass by, and later I'd shape the fiddle to meet the new trim, much as I'd done at the forward end of the same fiddle.

Finally, I applied another coat of varnish to the toerails.
