Snow Lily | Tuesday, October 30, 2012 To begin, I wrapped up some work on the toerails, mainly installing drain holes at the deck's low point to allow surface water to drain. After reviewing various photos of the boat in profile to get an overall view, as well as closer views in the shop eyeballing the curve of the sheer, I determined a low point and laid out a single opening on each side, which I then cut with drill bits and chisel before fine-tuning with sandpaper to complete the new drains. |
Afterwards, I solvent-washed the toerails and surrounding areas and masked off the rails to prepare for multiple coats of varnish. Later in the day, I applied a coat of varnish to the entire toerail. |
Back in the cabin, I got reacquainted with things by removing the excess bungs from the trim I installed earlier, in the nav station and on some of the settee trim. |
Next, I milled and sanded new trim for the galley countertop fiddle, then spent the remainder of the day cutting and fitting the pieces to fit around the numerous corners. Around the companionway area, I temporarily installed the trim, holding it with tape, till I could make some final cuts and adjustments to these pieces. |
I cut a section of fiddle to extend across the companionway ladder area, but before I installed it I'd have to make a cut to accommodate a teak step pad that I'd install on the countertop beneath the companionway opening. |
