April 6, 2007 I spent most of the day working with mahogany--first preparing the raw stock for milling, and then measuring and milling many of the trim pieces required for the saloon and galley--first into roughly-sized blanks, and then into finished pieces. In a variety of operations, from table saw to router to dado head to miter box to finish sander, I prepared many of the fiddles to surround countertops and bookshelves, as well as trim pieces for the stove, fiddles to hold the settee cushions in place, and other pieces. By the end of the operation, all these pieces were ready for the finishing room for a couple coats of varnish before installation, which should begin next week sometime. |
Although that represented most of the work today, I also did some final sanding on parts of the interior and then applied primer over the lower settee fronts, in the head, and inside the opening for the forward hatch. |
