Equinox Project | Thursday, January 15, 2009 As I'd anticipated, the primer was not ready to sand in the morning, so while I waited I cleaned up some of the painting gear from yesterday and made some preparations for varnish work on the main bulkheads and some of the exterior woodwork, all of which was down on the bench. The high-build really needs 24 hours to cure to sandability, though often it becomes sandable with less. Therefore, with fewer than 24 hours since I'd finished the application yesterday, I was unsurprised--if disappointed--to discover that even after lunch, I could not sand the material without clogging the sandpaper. Resigned to delaying the sanding till tomorrow, I moved on applied a coat of satin varnish to one side of the main bulkheads, and applied a first sealer coat of varnish to a series of exterior trim pieces up in the finishing room. With that, there was, unfortunately, little else I could do but wait. |
