Bolero Project | December 14, 2007

The primer was ready for sanding, so I spent all day sanding first the hull (since the staging was at the lower level already), and then, after relocating the staging planks to the upper level, the decks with 220 grit paper on a vibrating sander.  To ensure that I sanded away all the texture left from spraying, I used a small light held at an angle to the deck to highlight, as I went, any remaining areas containing the orange peel, and sanded till all areas were smooth and flat.  These primers sand up so smoothly and silkily that it almost makes the chore a pleasure, thanks to the sleek end result.  I wish you could feel it.

The objective of the high build was to seal and fill the broad areas and provide a final means of surfacing the areas before finish primer application; as expected, the high build filled some of the smaller pinholes in the deck's fairing compound and highlighted others that would require filling, along with two or three low spots, so I planned a spot application of Alexseal fairing compound at some point in the near future.
