Bolero Project | August 26, 2007

In preparation for the boat's eventual move into the shop and the beginning of work on the project, today I moved the mast and other rigging off the boat, and cleaned out all the loose gear from the cockpit.  I removed all the standing rigging and labeled it for future reference; I also removed the internal halyards, labeled them, and installed messenger lines to make rerunning the rigging easy later on.  I killed lots of wasps that had nested inside the mast.

It's really a shame that this rigging was stored so carelessly over the few years since it was new (2000).  The wire rigging had several kinks caused by ignorant storage, and the running rigging was faded and stained with green algae, again from lack of care by the owners and/or the boatyard.  What a waste.  The whole boat was a sloppy mess, in fact, left that way since the end of last year's season.
