Ashantee | Friday, February 13, 2015 Another round of sanding in the interior finished up work on the various patches and hole-filling that I'd been working on. |
With the end of major prep work for the interior and exterior painting projects, I began the thorough cleaning process of boat and shop required. Over the past few days I'd been considering in which order I wanted to attack the painting projects, and ultimately decided to complete the overhead first before moving to the decks and hull. So to that end, I focused cleanup efforts on the cabin for now, as I could continue work outside even during the interior painting process. After vacuuming up the dust from everywhere, I solvent-washed the overhead to prepare it for primer. Because fresh epoxy laminates can prevent one-part paints from curing properly, I applied some epoxy 2-part primer over the new bulkhead patch, which would allow the cabin primer to cure properly over top. |

Cleanup and preparations complete for now, I wrapped up the day with the coaming blanks. After overlaying the two coamings on their respective pairs of new teak boards to reassure myself that the blanks were correctly sized, I glued each pair of boards together with epoxy, clamping them securely and eventually setting them aside in the shop for plenty of cure time. |
