Waanderlust Project--Phase III | Wednesday, August 3, 2011

It was mostly a planning day, as I spent much of the time going through my work lists and producing materials lists that I'd need to procure in the near future to move various aspects of the project forward as we looked towards completing the restoration.

I sorted through the piles of gear and hardware that I'd removed from the boat at the beginning of the job, as well as a large box of additional hardware that came from another Swiftsure that was apparently destroyed.  My goal in this process was to determine what would be possibly reused, and what pieces and parts I could set aside, such as various interior pieces that I'd saved initially, but probably would not be reused in the new construction.   From the second boat's stash there were duplicates of stanchions and stanchion bases, as well as bronze deck cleats and other hardware.

I culled the hardware from both boats into a couple piles that I laid out for future reference and selection.  The stanchions had me scratching my head, as there were three or four different heights; 12 stanchions total were required to span both sides of the boat. I sorted the various stanchions into related piles for ease of categorization when it came time to choose and install them.  It looked like the stanchions that originally came off this boat would be fine, but it was nice to have the options to choose from in any event.  This process also highlighted the absence of certain hardware that wasn't on hand.

While awaiting various decisions affecting some of the new interior construction, specifically the engine room, galley,  and head areas, I'd focus on some of the smaller jobs ahead, including additional interior refinishing work, systems planning, and some remaining exterior work.  The owner and I planned a meeting at the boat in a few weeks to sort out some of the more significant details.

Total Time Billed on This Job Today:  6 hours
