Waanderlust Project--Phase III | Monday, August 1, 2011

With the sudden change in shop schedule came the opportunity to continue the work on Waanderlust, so after clearing the shop, I moved her back indoors, after first washing off the decks to clean them after their several weeks outdoors.

After some initial setup and preparation, including leveling the boat, I prepared to continue right where I left off in June:  with the engine installation.  The new engine, a Beta Marine 25, had finally arrived about a week after I moved the boat from the shop, and I'd kept it in storage over the subsequent weeks.

My first step was to set up the engine centering string one more time; I'd left it in place and simply had to restring and align it inside the boat.  Then, I placed the plywood engine template on the foundations and carefully aligned it with the string, then made some reference marks to trace around the mounts' locations on the top of the foundations.  Afterwards, I removed the mounts from the template and placed them directly on the foundations, aligned with my marks, so that I could accurately mark the bolt holes for drilling.

I decided to wait till tomorrow for the next steps, and used the few minutes remaining in the day to unbolt the engine from its shipping crate and prepare it for hoisting into the boat.
