After much discussion, the owners and I agreed to take a pause in the project while they worked out a few questions and looked into various possibilities.
However, with only a small amount of deck hardware remaining on the poop deck, I couldn't leave it alone feeling undone, whatever the eventual resolution of the project was, so I took an hour to remove the remaining bits to clear the entire deck of hardware before moving on to other things for the next couple weeks, as well as a previously-scheduled vacation.
