Now that all the cabin sole was laid, my next step, after trimming the overhanging planks around the after openings as needed, was to sand the entire thing, removing pencil marks, scuffs, and so forth.  Afterwards, I cleaned up, vacuumed, and solvent washed.

I made some reference marks on the small access hatch beneath the companionway, then removed it so I could install the new sole material on the hatch, leaving the pieces overlong for later trimming.

Preparations complete, I applied a sealer coat of thinned varnish to the cabin sole.

To round out the cabin sole installation, I needed to trim out the edges around the entire thing.  To that end, from leftover sole material I prepared several lengths of "baseboard" trim, which I'd cut and fit in place once the sealer coat on the sole had dried.  I sealed the new trim pieces on the bench once I'd completed the milling.  Some of the wood I used was previously finished from another project, and was a bit darker in color since the material had had time to age several months; the new Khaya would tend to darken similarly.

To complete the chainplate installation, I installed stainless steel deck plates over each location, using plenty of sealant around the chainplate itself, and allowing the sealant to ooze out all around the deck plate for later trimming.  The sealant would also hold these plates in place, obviating the screw holes.  The smaller chainplates for the double lower shrouds were just barely thicker than the slots in the appropriately-sized deck plates, so I had to open up the slots slightly with a small grinder.

Finally, I applied additional varnish to several cabinet doors and the companionway boards, hoping to complete that process soon, and applied the first coat of varnish to the head door.
