The next step in the port settee construction was the shelf above the lower cabinets.  To begin, I installed hardwood support cleats to the inboard (angled) and top edges of the lower dividers; I'd cut the cleats earlier, so all I had to do was install them.

On the starboard side, I installed additional cleats on the upper vertical dividers, and along the shelf at the bottom edge of the lockers, to support the front panel when I installed it.  I'd previously cut these cleats to size.

With the front panel temporarily in place, I marked out the locations of the openings in the lower section, then, after additional layout, cut four locker openings.  I kept the size of the openings the same as those on the starboard settee.

Beginning with an oversize blank, I cut and fitted the shelf above the cabinet, scribing it to match the hull.

In order to continue construction, I decided to leave the front (i.e. angled back) panel off  until I could paint the insides of the lockers.  So I installed the shelf with glue and screws, then cut and installed support cleats at the ends for the upper cabinet's vertical face, and three horizontal cleats defining the locations of the upper dividers that would separate the space into four lockers.

Next, I templated, cut, and installed three small dividers, gluing them to the hull and deck with epoxy adhesive and securing them to the cleats with screws.

After some final preparations, I painted the insides of the lower lockers on the port side, and the upper lockers on the starboard side.

Finally, I lightly sanded and cleaned some of the cherry shelving and panels for the lockers that I'd be installing soon, and applied a sealer coat of varnish to all sides.
