Snow Lily | Wednesday, December 19, 2012 Getting started, I sanded the new primer on the overhead liner and main cabin areas, then cleaned up the mess, vacuuming up the dust, solvent-washing, and finally tacking off the painted surfaces. Afterwards, I applied the first of two or three coats of semi-gloss white enamel. The finish paint is always so much nicer than the primer, both in appearance and application, but I always forget just how much. |
This all consumed a large portion of the day, but late in the afternoon I had time to continue work on the soon-to-be-upholstered settee locker doors. The second component of these doors was a plywood panel to accept the upholstery itself; the upholstered panel would overlap the inner panel, and the edges of the locker opening, by about an inch on three sides, with the bottom edge remaining flush for hinging purposes. To this end, I milled seven panels to the correct size from 12mm plywood; these lockers were all the same size, which streamlined the overall process. Once I had the blanks cut, I cut the corners to a 1" radius, then eased the edges and sanded the panels, completing their construction. The hardware I required to install the doors and secure the panels together arrived late in the day, so I'd be ready for the next step as soon as time allowed. |
