| Monday, November 23, 2009 To begin the day, I lightly sanded all the interior brightwork following Friday's sealer coat, as well as the various mast support pieces. I had to depart for an unrelated appointment, which kept me away most of the morning, but before I left I sanded and painted (finish coat 2) the icebox once more. |
On my way back to the shop, I stopped in and picked up the Formica I'd ordered for the various countertops, and then got to work on the front panels for the small lockers around the chainplates. It was a tricky piece with a lot of shape to the lower edge; it looked like Rhode Island. I got the first side (port) cut and fit, but didn't get to the second side, though I hoped it would go more quickly. |

A shipment containing the new bow and stern rails and stanchions arrived, and I did a quick test-fit to ensure that the rails had been built according to the measurements I'd provided, and that the measurements I'd provided were accurate. I left the protective cover on the rails for now; installation would come a bit later. |

I hoped to wrap up the galley construction soon, with the icebox nearly ready to install, so to that end I prepared the front panel for its eventual final installation. I needed to cut an access door into the locker beneath the sink, so after determining the area in which to cut the opening, I laid out an opening that I thought would look good and work well, and made the cut. |

To round out the day, I applied a second coat of varnish to all the interior cherry plywood, the last coat for the moment since this would be enough for the wood's protection during the next steps of construction; I'd apply several additional coats a bit later in the process. I also applied a sealer coat to two additional interior panels that I'd not yet installed--the galley panel and the electrical locker panel, and an additional coat on the mast posts and beam which, being oak, required more base coats to fill the heavy grain adequately. |
