Bolero Project | Monday, July 7, 2008

I had a bit more taping and masking to take care of before I could apply the gloss white paint to the planned smooth areas of the deck, so I got started with that.  In particular, I made a change to how I'd terminated and taped around the aft end of the cockpit so as to incorporate a border around the planned traveler location.

For this, I first needed to determine where the traveler should be.  I measured the boom back to the location of the original boom bail, and consulted some old photos of the boat (wincing as I marveled at the condition of the old traveler and surrounds) to confirm the location.  I laid this out on the deck, allowed for the usual 1-1/2" wide border on each side, and taped off as required.

With that complete, I covered the field areas of the deck with paper to prevent overspray, and hung more plastic from the toerails to cover the hull against overspray as well.

After some final preparations, including final solvent wash and tacking off, as well as wetting/washing down the staging and floor once more, I applied three coats of Alexseal snow white topcoat to the deck borders.  In between coats, I ordered the paint for the nonskid, and planned for some of the remaining parts of the job ahead.
