Building the AF4 34

I’m building this simple 21′ flat-bottomed skiff, designed by Jim Michalak. In Episode 34,  I finish up the outboard well with some new drains, install a garboard drain, clean up the electrical wiring and control cables, and install some hardware, all the while working on applying 6 or more coats of varnish to all the new brightwork.

I’m building this simple 21′ flat-bottomed skiff, designed by Jim Michalak. In Episode 33,  I install the new remote steering system, work on the electrical side of things, and make the final control connections to the engine, after a frustrating delay.

I’m building this simple 21′ flat-bottomed skiff, designed by Jim Michalak. In Episode 32, it’s time to get the new outboard installed,, and some of the related rigging for the controls.  I also try to work through a seemingly incompatible steering system, and get ready to move forward with the final rigging and connections.

Building the AF4 31

I’m building this simple 21′ flat-bottomed skiff, designed by Jim Michalak. In Episode 31, I get ready for varnishing all the bright trim on the boat, mill, install, and finish the remaining deck trim, install the new portlights, and undertake some structural prep-work to prepare for the canvas cover over the birdwatcher slot and companionway.

In Episode 29, with all the major paint work done, I get down to some of the final details, like some bunging and varnish  work, painting the nonskid in the cockpit and on the foredeck, and some of the myriad other small things required to finish the boat.

I’m building this simple 21′ flat-bottomed skiff, designed by Jim Michalak. In Episode 28, I apply epoxy high build primer, finish primers, and gloss topcoats to the hull and deck.  This covers a lot of work, so the video is a bit longer than usual.

I’m building this simple 21′ flat-bottomed skiff, designed by Jim Michalak. In Episode 25, I do some initial layout for some elliptical opening ports in the hull, then, some time later, finalize the layout and cut the openings.
