Snow Lily | Saturday, December 22, 2012 Ripping and resawing large quantities of lumber makes a mess, so, wanting to get the worst of the major milling out of the way, I picked up where I left off and completed the milling operations for the forward cabin ceiling. First, I ripped the wider boards into 2" widths, the finished width for the ceiling strips. |
Next, I resawed the 5/4 boards (1" planed thickness) into two slimmer strips, each about 3/8" thick, representing the finished thickness of the ceiling boards. This operation made a mess of the cut sides of the boards, as well as my aging blade, but the cuts were the back sides, and wouldn't be seen. The freshly-sanded faces of the boards were ready to go on the exposed side. Later, I'd slightly ease the sharp edges of the strips, then pre-finish all sides with tung oil before installation in the boat. This could take place at my relative leisure while I completed various other jobs required before the ceiling installation. |

Deeming the interior painting (at least those areas currently underway) complete, I removed the tape and cleaned up. |
