Snow Lily | Thursday, December 6, 2012 After giving the hull paint over 40 hours' cure time, I moved forward to the last major step in the painting process: the boottop. To begin, while the staging was still up I hung plastic sheeting to cover the hull, then removed the staging for better access. Next, I masked off the top edge of the boottop with special bleed-resistant vinyl fine-line tape, required to create a crisp paint line with no solvent bleed-through. |
Continuing, I added a layer of regular green masking tape, covering most of the narrow vinyl tape, then taped the plastic in place at the lower edge, completely covering the hull. To wrap up the preparations, I applied a strip of masking paper above the boottop for added protection. |

After final surface prep, I applied four coats of Alexseal snow white topcoat to the boottop. |
