Circe |
Monday, July 6, 2009 Before moving Circe indoors to begin the project, I had a couple jobs I wanted to take care of while she was still outdoors. First, I pulled the plug from the drain hole in the keel, and let all the water and detergent mixture drain away; afterwards, I rinsed out the bilge with fresh water. |
The fuel tank was full of gasoline, and would have to come out eventually, so I took the opportunity to pump the fuel into some storage containers while the boat was in the open. Then, I removed the tank from the locker, a simple matter of undoing a few screws and hoses. I plugged the end of the fuel supply line with oilsorb and tape, and secured it to the locker opening with tape to prevent any nuisance spillage till I could remove the remains of the fuel system later. |

With that work complete, I moved the boat indoors to begin the project. Before quitting for the day, I sprayed the propeller shaft components (coupling, stuffing box nuts, and prop nuts) with penetrating solvent, and also sprayed the bolts securing the engine to the foundations; I hoped to make the engine removal one of the first tasks in the next day or two. |
