The new Delrin bearing material for the rudder arrived late last week, so I prepared a small disc to use between the lower pintle and the rudder itself.

This was the final thing I'd been awaiting before completing the rudder reinstallation, so next I finished up that job, raising the rudder the rest of the way and installing the bronze pintle back in place with new screws and sealant. As of these photos, I'd not yet cut off the excess bolt length securing the bronze to the skeg.

A little later, I prepared a fiberglass "plug" to fill the gap between the lower bearing and the bottom of the rudder, to prevent the rudder from moving upwards.  This piece needed to remain semi-removable for some future need to pull the rudder.  Using a template of the rudder shape in that area that I'd made earlier, I cut the shape from some 3/4" thick fiberglass sheet.  Later, I'd fine-tune the shape and secure it in place on the rudder itself.

Nearing the end of a round of various summer visits from friends and family that had been factoring in to work time over the past few weeks, this also became a short day, but to wrap things up I cleaned and lightly sanded the first skim coat of fairing compound on the cockpit locker lids, then applied a second coat as needed to smooth the surfaces.

Total Time on This Job Today:  3.5 hours
