I made the cockpit sole the first focus of the day, starting by removing the weights securing the core and lightly sanding the area to prepare for the skin lamination.  As with other areas that I'd recored, I filled the kerfs and any gaps at the edges of the core, and filled the voids around the three openings (bilge pump, fuel fill, and deck plate) with thickened epoxy to isolate the core from these openings.

Afterwards, I installed three layers of biaxial fabric in epoxy resin.  I ran the material right over the two larger openings; I'd recut them later.

I spent the remainder of the day sanding the first application (skim coat) of fairing filler on the other deck areas, beginning with the coachroof.  In most areas, I tried to keep the sanding as minimal as possible, leaving perhaps a little extra material, lest I sand through more of the gelcoat and expose more of the pinhole-filled original skin coat beneath.  There'd be more filling and sanding ahead, particularly in the areas I'd repaired.  This round of sanding helped reveal the low spots that would require additional attention, and which I'd get to next time.
